Kailua Town Farmer’s Market

This is the second of Kailua’s markets, held each Sunday morning in the parking lot of Kailua Elementary. Smaller than the Thursday one, some prefer it for being quieter and less crowded. It’s not completely quiet, as there’s always live music throughout the time it’s open. This is another good place to get your organic needs filled, including fruits, vegetables and organic eggs, too. You just might get to meet the hen that laid them at the booth! Word is she’s very big and very friendly. Getting there in the first hour or two is crucial if you are after the best produce. Those are usually gone by 11AM. Locals like to pick up their breads fresh from here as well and so should you. Made by Island bakeries, it’s always good and there are many varieties so you’ve got a lot more to choose from than just white. This is an environmentally aware market. For example, the organizers ask their food vendors to use bio-compostable utensils and plates only. Some sellers even use palm fronds to wrap up your purchases instead of a paper or plastic bag. If you’re a Lean Green person or just like a great way to start a Sunday, put it on your calendar.
