The Kahaluu Reef sits across the street from the ocean, only about 50 yards from the waves. This is a quieter part of Kona, the property having nothing but undeveloped land to the east, and no next door neighbor to the north.
The two and three bedroom condos have interiors that range from 964 to 1,512 Sq Ft with one lanai exterior that faces toward the Pacific. Although these are predominantly two bedrooms with the same layout, one variation is that the second and third floor residences have larger lanais than those on the first – 112 vs 168 Sq Ft. The one three bedroom unit is also two stories. Despite its number, 202, its lower level, which contains the third bedroom and bathroom, is on the ground floor of the building.
Each unit has one assigned stall that could be covered or uncovered. Ceiling fans are throughout the living areas and bedrooms to cool the interior. Washer/Dryer is inside every condo. This is a walk-up building so there is no elevator.
The residences have peekaboo to partial ocean views from them.
Amenities & Things To Do Kahaluu Reef owners have an easement to use the swimming pool, pavilion and BBQs
next door (78-6671 Alii Dr), which is a separate, ‘sister’ property, owned by the developer. From there you can look out at the Pacific from the comfort of the lounge chairs on the sundeck. This easement can be terminated by the developer, but in that eventuality he is obligated to provide a “parcel of land no less than 25 feet by 100 feet adjacent to the western boundary of the property” for a new pool owned by the Reef.
Directly 1/5 south of you is
Kahaluu Beach Park for when you want to actually get into the ocean itself. Although the shore is rocky, this part of the coastline draws many here for some of the best snorkeling on the Big Island. You can see sea turtles, all kinds of colorful fish, octopus and other sea life, all without having to venture too far out or into deep water. The waves bring surfers here as well, just don’t head out unless you are at a certain level of skill as it can get rough.
Most of the typical errands can be done 1 mile from your home at
Keauhou Shopping Center. At one stop you can do your grocery shopping, pick up any drugstore needs, handle any mailing required at the US Post Office and then fill up at the gas station. If there’s time, you can do some shopping or get a bite to eat before the trip home, which takes only a few minutes.
