Mauna Loa Village is a resort community in Kona, located approx. 1/5 mile from the ocean. Its entire ocean-facing side is lined by the Kona Country Club Ocean Course’s 2nd fairway, the 8th fairway bordering the northern half of the inland side.
The individual buildings have an unusual hexagon (6-sided) shape, giving distinct angles to the layouts inside.
However, the exteriors have a more traditional appearance with grey siding and sections of dark brown stone.
You enter your home from the courtyard in the center of each hexagon, which features a central fountain.
The one to three bedroom condos have interiors ranging from 780 to 1,980 Sq Ft with one or two lanais on the outside.
One bedrooms are all single-level, while two bedroom layouts can be one or two stories.
There are only three three-bedroom residences in Mauna Loa Village, all of them two stories.
In the two story floor plans, two bedrooms are on the ground floor level, the kitchen, living & dining rooms upstairs. The third bedroom is also upstairs in those cases.
Please note that this is a Leasehold property, the lease expiring in 2050. Also, some units are owned through a timeshare program.
Every home has one assigned, uncovered stall for their parking.
Central air conditioning is inside every unit to cool the interior.
These are exclusively walk-up buildings, so there are no elevators in this community.
Wyndham Resorts runs the front desk and on-site management for owners who want to opt-in to the hotel program here.
Some residences do have ocean views that range from peekaboo to partial.
Amenities & Things To Do
Being on a resort property means more amenities, so you have six swimming pools, some with adjacent hot tubs, spread throughout the community as well as eleven tennis courts and several pickleball courts, too.
There are also walking paths throughout the property that take you through the well-maintained grounds including many tropical flowers and water features.
Keauhou Bay is less than 1/3 mile just north of you where you can swim in the calmer waters here.
This is also a prime snorkeling spot, the northern side of the bay said to be especially good for spotting the often colorful ocean life.
Although not a large beach, you will usually have few neighbors on the sand, so it’s a peaceful place to sit or lay out.
