Mariners Valley, located in Hawaii Kai, is one of the largest neighborhoods in this East Oahu suburban community. Developed in the early 1970s, the neighborhood has a much more modern, suburban look and feel than most Oahu neighborhoods. The roads are wide and nicely paved, the single-family homes are contemporary and well-maintained, and the lawns are green and landscaped nicely. Residents enjoy a warm, sunny climate most of the time along with close proximity to favorite local spots like Makapuu Beach and Makapuu Lighthouse, Sandy Beach, Koko Head Crater and Hawaii Kai Marina. Mariners Valley is also just a short drive to Hawaii Kai’s bustling shopping centers, which are home to grocery stores, Costco, a plethora of restaurants, coffee shops, doctors offices, a movie theater, and other businesses.
Most Mariners Valley homes were built in the years 1969 - 1972, and many have since undergone renovations and remodelling to update the design elements, modernize the hardware and appliances, add rooms, or expand the original space. The floor plans are open to allow for easy family or group time and to enhance a laid back island lifestyle. Houses in the neighborhood are generally medium-sized with 3-5 bedrooms and living space that varies from the 1,300 sq ft range to over 3,000 sq ft. The size of Mariners Valley lots ranges from 5,500 to 10,000 sq ft. Almost every home includes a two-car garage and some feature a pool or jacuzzi in the backyard.
Mariners Valley is appropriately named because the neighborhood sits in a valley. The valley location means that homes here don’t have the mountain views enjoyed by residents of the ridge neighborhoods or waterfront views offered by more exclusive Hawaii Kai neighborhoods. However, that is reflected in the price of Mariners Valley homes. This is one of the more affordable neighborhoods to purchase a
house in Hawaii Kai, which makes it an ideal location for young professionals, families and first-time buyers. That’s not to say prices are cheap, but for this community that’s known to be affluent, Mariners Valley real estate is an excellent place to start looking! Plus, you’re just a short drive to the mountain ridges and the the water.
Residents value this neighborhood for its convenience to all that Hawaii Kai has to offer, the easy 30 minute commute into Downtown Honolulu, beautiful setting, peaceful suburban community, and strong school district. If you’re looking for the Hawaii Kai lifestyle but want something that’s a little more affordable, a home in Mariners Valley could be the perfect fit!
