You can lay out your towel and soak in the atmosphere or get in for some boogie boarding here at the very beach where it was invented. The conditions that delight bodyboarders aren’t always best for swimming, so use caution if you’re thinking of doing that.
If you head north from home toward downtown Kailua-Kona one great place to visit is Hale Halawai Park, about ¾ mile that way. A beautiful oceanfront green space, it has a large pavilion in the middle that has performances and cultural events happening regularly inside. In addition to the open area, there is an access point to the shoreline below. This is a more typical rocky coastline, but the tidepools have vibrant ocean life to check out and you can sit and watch the waves here, too.
