Translating to “Ocean Wind” in Hawaiian, Makani A Kai is a boutique condominium complex set directly oceanfront and the smallest condo community in Maalaea. Only eight of the units are directly on the beach.
Most units feature beautiful ocean views. As the last complex on the strip, Makani A Kai boasts a quiet, private atmosphere. It’s also just a stone’s throw away from Sugar Beach, the longest beach in Maui, and Haycraft Park, a quiet beach park with a grassy lawn that’s home to the famous Freight Trains surf break.
The low-density complex has twelve two-story buildings, without elevators, and two units in each structure. Several of the structures are interconnected, and therefore, technically, making it just three structures in total. These are all one and two-bedroom units ranging from 630 to 996 square feet, which is a mix of single level condos and two-story townhome style properties.
Each has a lanai, with units on the ground floor offering a patio with easy access to the pool and beach. The two-bedroom units on the second floor feature high-vaulted ceilings, additional windows and a lofted bedroom with an ensuite bathroom and secure storage rooms.
Many condos have also been upgraded with air conditioning, a mix of wall units and split systems. Some include in-unit washers and dryers but there is an on-site laundry facility as well.
Gorgeous tropical foliage like red ti plants and ginger flowers create a paradisiacal environment while the oceanside lawn features loungers under shady palm trees. Residents and guests can enjoy the enclosed saltwater pool and adjacent barbecue area with two gas grills plus dining tables
