The West Molokai Resort, also called Kepuhi Beach Resort, is a beachfront property in the northwest corner of Molokai, its residences as close as 100 yards from the ocean.
The community has three basic types of structures: First are the six two-story ‘A’ buildings that hold eight units each and seven ‘B’ buildings, also two-story, with twelve units in each of those. The other eight are ‘C’ buildings that are single-level and have just two units inside each one.
These studio and one bedroom condos have interiors of 348 to 642 Sq Ft with one lanai of 95 to 365 Sq Ft exterior. Overall there are one hundred and eight studios and forty one bedrooms.
The one-bedroom duplexes in the ‘C’ buildings are distinctly different from the other residences. Their Polynesian-style high-peaked roofs give them an equally high sloped ceiling inside that allows room for a loft storage area in the bedroom. They also have washer/dryer, whereas residents in the other buildings use one of the four on-site coin laundry facilities.
Finally, duplex units have full kitchens, in contrast to the ‘A’ and ‘B’ building condos that were originally built with only kitchenettes.
Over the years some, but not all, ‘A’ and ‘B’ owners have done remodels that have created a full kitchen, however.
Each residence has one unassigned, uncovered parking space to use. The two-story buildings are all walk-ups so there are no elevators in the complex.
Many of these condos have peekaboo to completely unobstructed ocean views from them.
Amenities & Things To Do Kepuhi Beach sits along the entire coastline here, made up of two stretches of sand separated by a rocky span that is in front of the swimming pool location. Both sections of the beach have nice sand to relax on, but the waters here are not so friendly. Strong currents and an often hard shore break make this a place where staying on shore is best. The views are still beautiful, though, and monk seals sometimes come up on the beach for a rest. Plus, it’s almost guaranteed that there will be few others out here, most coming down for the sunset.
Just south of Kepuhi Beach, about ¾ mile from your home, you have the much larger
Papohaku Beach Park. Also called Three Mile Beach, because that’s how long it is, the surf is swimmable down here, at least part of the year. The winter months of October to March do bring stronger waves, which can be dangerous. Like its northern neighbor, you often have the beach to yourself, or at least feel like it with so much space. There are also picnic areas to have a beachside outing at as well.
