The West Loch Estates and West Loch Fairways lie right on Pearl Harbor's westernmost shores. The two are the result of master planning that began in the late 1980's as the Ewa real estate began the boom that continues to this day. Together they bookend the West Loch Golf Course, with the West Loch Estates homes taking up the north side and the Fairways homes on the south.

West Loch Estates' first houses opened their doors in 1990, with more added over the years. In fact, the median home in this neighborhood has an age of about 10 years. They are also bigger than most residences you'll find on the Oahu real estate market, all falling in the mid to large size house range, meaning 3 to 5, or even more, bedrooms in them.

The neighborhood layout is a little unusual as well. Almost every home is on a cul-de-sac, creating a greater intimacy with your neighbors and a community feel that you don't always get elsewhere. The fact that about 70% of residents are the homeowners tells you they're invested and fully committed to living here.

Those seeking condos or townhomes will have better luck in West Loch Fairways, which mixes them in with the expected single family homes. If you want to live right on the fairway, however, you'll have to opt for a house, because the front row is reserved for them.

You'll have an easier time getting around than in the Estates, too, since the Fairways' streets link up throughout, so there's fewer cul-de-sacs. Another difference is the larger green spaces between the Fairways homes, giving you greater room to roam and enjoy just outside your doors.

Regardless of which West Loch community you live in, you'll get the advantages of easy proximity to Fort Weaver Rd and H-1, a definite blessing for commuters. Plus there's the playgrounds of the West Loch Shoreline and Asing Parks to retreat to whenever a breather is needed.

Finally, the benefits of being next door to a true urban center in Kapolei, where the shopping, education and business opportunities will only increase in the years ahead should finally seal the deal. What more do you need?
