About Ala Moana Hotel Condo
The changing of the Ala Moana Hotel into a condotel in 2005 - named the Ala Moana Hotel Condo - was the largest conversion ever done in Hawaii. It attracted a huge crowd of interested buyers to the initial viewings and sales. Units went quickly and for a good price. No one saw the 2008 economic collapse coming over the horizon.

In the wake of that major downturn, the units' values also dropped, but the early buyers were partly protected by the fact that, as hotel rooms, they still produced a decent income. The Hawaii tourist industry wasn't affected as badly by the economic fall, cushioning owners of Ala Moana condos better than many other buyers caught up in the overheated market.

That is an important point about the condos in the Ala Moana Hotel Condo – these are investment properties almost exclusively, not residences. There are limits placed on owner-occupants so few of them do so, instead placing it in the hotel pool for bookings or handling the rental themselves.

Despite not being in Waikiki proper, there's much in the property's favor as a place to stay. It's connected directly through the parking garage to Ala Moana Shopping Center itself. Acres of shopping, dining and entertainment are seconds, not minutes, away. Across the street lies Ala Moana Beach, one of the most popular stretches of sand outside Waikiki. In many cases, you can enjoy that same ocean view from the comfort of your unit.

The main building, called the Waikiki Tower, has the best vantage points from the 07 & 08 rooms as well as the 09 to 24 stacks, while the smaller Kona Tower, on the West side, provides the most desirable vistas from the 49 to 59 stacks.
